sprinkles of the world unite!

sprinkles? jimmies? who cares! perfect ice cream topping is what they should be called. rainbow versus chocolate, we needed to know which was the ultimate sprinkle. of course we couldn't just eat them plain, vanilla ice cream was a must.

and the winner is....chocolate. and for those naysayers out there, we want you to know, there is actual chocolate in chocolate sprinkles. cocoa is the 6th ingredient, booyah!

and if any of you have the desire to have an impromptu sundae party at work, melted peanut butter is the way to go. trust us.

the incredible edible m&m

my co-worker and i decided to answer the great american m&m debate once and for all. we narrowed the field down to our two favorites, well really my co-worker's two favorites because lets be honest here, she is the true m&m connoisseur. so what's its gonna be dark chocolate peanut or milk chocolate almond...only time will tell.

in a head to head comparison, dark chocolate peanut m&ms were the clear favorite! one might even call them the greatest candy ever. the nut was softer, the chocolate was less sweet, but sweet nonetheless, they were slightly smaller which as one taster pointed out, "makes it easier to eat lots of."

here's what one taster had to say about the competition

"i used to eat milk chocolate almond m&ms like doing so was my job. but after copious consumption of dcp (m&m lingo for dark chocolate peanut), i now find these to be slightly too sweet and too hard...that is the nature of the nut."

easter eggs are the reason for the season

easter has come and gone, but easter candy will always be in our hearts...and mouths. this week we decided to taste several varieties of chocolate easter eggs. below are our findings

hershey solid milk chocolate eggs:
chocolate-good, melts in your mouth
size-a little large for one bite, more like a two biter
rating-8

hershey milk chocolate coated mini eggs:
chocolate-creamy, delicious, hard coating added a lot to the taste and texture
size-perfect one bite
rating-9

butterfinger eggs:
chocolate-subpar, but the butterfinger crunchies were great and added texture
size-also a 2 biter
rating-7.25

cadbury milk chocolate mini eggs:
chocolate-delicious, good consistency, crunch of the outer shell is nice
size-perfect one bite
rating-8.5

cadbury dark chocolate mini eggs:
chocolate-way too sweet
size-perfect
rating-4

dove dark chocolate eggs:
chocolate-perfect, smooth, creamy, the way dark chocolate should taste
size-another 2 biter
rating-8.5

cadbury orange creme eggs:
chocolate-pretty good
filling-way too sweet and a little nauseating
rating-5

and the winner is...hershey milk chocolate coated mini eggs. too bad our co-workers ate them all. damn them.

so many jelly beans, so little time

my co-worker and i are officially candy soul mates. not only does she love candy, she loves taste tests! after a lengthy discussion on the numerous varieties of jelly beans, we decided we needed to know once and for all which brand was king. so naturally we held a taste test. the contenders were starburst, starburst tropical, life savers, and jolly rancher. we rated each flavor from each brand on a scale of 1 to 10. below are the results

starburst: bad consistency overall, very hard outer shell
strawberry | pink - 3
green apple | green - 4
lemon | yellow - 5
orange | orange - 4.5
grape | purple - 6
cherry | red - 4

starburst tropical: same bad consistency as above
watermelon | green - 5.5
kiwi strawberry | dark pink - 4
tropical punch | red - 4
pineapple orange | yellow - 4
strawberry banana | pink - 3
mango melon | orange - 5

life savers:
cherry | red - 5.5
pineapple | white - 5.5
peach | light orange - 4
orange | orange - 4
strawberry | pink - 1
green apple | green - 1.5
grape | purple - 3.5
lemon | yellow - 4

jolly rancher:
grape | purple - 5
blue raspberry | blue - 7
strawberry | red - 2.5
orange | orange - 5.5
watermelon | pink - 6.5
apple | green - 6.5

as i predicted, jolly rancher seems to be the favorite, with the blue raspberry being especially delicious. maybe next time we'll add jelly bellys into the mix.
